2011 Top Ten States for LEED Green Buildings Released
Posted Mon January 23, 2012The US Green Building Council released its top ten states for green buildings last week. Ratings are based on the number of green buildings per person in 2011. Washington D.C. topped the list with over 31 square feet of LEED certified space per capita for 2011.
The top 10 LEED states (including the District of Columbia), ranked by per capita are:
Washington D.C., 31.5 sq ft
Colorado, 2.74 sq ft
Illinois, 2.69 sq ft
Virginia, 2.42 sq ft
Washington, 2.18 sq ft
Maryland, 2.07 sq ft
Massachusetts, 2.00 sq ft
Texas, 1.99 sq ft
California, 1.92 sq ft
New York, 1.89 sq ft
Minnesota, 1.81 sq ft
“These states should be recognized for working to reinvent their local building landscapes with buildings that enliven and bolster the health of our environment, communities and local economies,” said Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair, USGBC.
