Posted Tue May 31, 2011 Rolf H. Jensen Memorial Public Education Grant

College Station Fire Department, College Station, Texas, is the winner of the 2011 Rolf H. Jensen Memorial Public Education Grant. The $5,000 grant will support the department’s fire and life safety public education initiative for the college community, called “Rental Housing Fire Reduction Education Program. The rental community, where more than 40,000 off-campus students live, is largely older housing that is deteriorating.

The fire department is teaming up with Bryan-College Station Apartment Association and Texas A & M University Department of Student Life. The program will offer resources and training for rental property managers, landlords, and property owners. The fire department wants to reach the students through public service announcements, educational messaging on social networking sites, fire safety presentations, and fire safety information distribution in neighborhoods.
