The Palazzo Casino Resort

RJA’s Expertise, Dedication Help Casino Resort Become Newest Las Vegas Destination

The Palazzo Casino Resort
Palazzo Casino Resort, Las Vegas, NV. Design, construction management and testing come together in high profile Las Vegas project.

Challenge. The $1.9 billion Palazzo Casino Resort which opened January 2008 includes an all-suites, 50-floor luxury hotel tower with more than 3,000 rooms, 375 concierge-level suites and six villas, 105,000-square-foot casino, 375,000-square-foot enclosed shopping, dining and entertainment complex and 450,000 square feet of added meeting and conference space, 4,000-space, five-level parking garage, pool deck and back-of-house support areas and front-of-house spaces. The Palazzo and its connected sister property, The Venetian, make up the largest resort and hotel complex in the world, with more than 7,000 hotel rooms and suites. The properties are designed to capture a large share of the adjacent Sands Expo and Convention Center business, as well as premium customers.
Meeting the project’s grand opening date involved much coordination of resources. Fire and life safety services required for The Palazzo began with design and continued through construction management and third party testing. The building had its unique characteristics and code challenges, with the most significant challenge arising during final smoke control testing.

Solution. Rolf Jensen & Associates (RJA) has had a long working relationship with The Palazzo owner, as well as owners of other casino resort properties in Las Vegas and throughout the world. RJA’s fire and life safety services evolved from a single area or structure to multi-use buildings within properties. An intimate knowledge of the International Building Code and its working relationship with Clark County officials has enabled RJA to take an intricate project from design to grand opening.

At the request of The Palazzo’s owner, RJA’s involvement became more intensive, with staff eventually working two, 12-hour shifts seven days a week, to meet revised scheduling requirements. This around-the- clock testing required collaboration between RJA, property owners, contractors and county officials. RJA’s dedication and expertise enabled completion of required testing and reporting to secure The Palazzo’s certificate of occupancy.

Result. Guided by the perseverance and commitment of RJA, those involved in the design, planning and construction of The Palazzo came together to establish one of the finest properties in Las Vegas. RJA’s role in The Palazzo enhanced its already stellar reputation in the fire and life safety industry.
